Our teachers are hand-picked, highly-trained specialist tutors, experienced in supporting children with a wide range of needs. Our aim is to support struggling learners in reading, writing and maths to make excellent progress and feel good about themselves and learning.

Brighton Expert Tutors was founded by Kathryn Coleman in 2016. Kathryn has a science degree, a PGCE in primary education and is a trained Reading Recovery expert teacher.
She has had a diverse career in education, teaching children across the complete age range of 3-15yrs over 25 years both in the UK and overseas.

Kathryn ensures that all the tutors working for Brighton Expert Tutors have an exceptionally high level of specialist training and are DBS checked. All teachers have the same passion and dedication to ensuring that their pupils make the best progress in the shortest time within an enjoyable, safe and nurturing context and deliver lessons based on the ethos and pedagogy of Brighton Expert Tutors. All our tutors can deliver lessons face to face or online for your preference.

Kathryn is passionate about helping children to maximise their full potential  in reading, writing and maths regardless of social and physical barriers and is dedicated to finding ways to overcome those hurdles to ensure children are happy, successful and love learning. She spent many years working as a leading Inclusion Manager and Special Educational Needs Coordinator before retraining as a specialist Reading Recovery teacher 8 years ago. She has developed an expertise in supporting literacy learning specifically and has run various projects across the city of Brighton and Hove to raise literacy levels of children. Her work on developing reading communities was recognised with an award from the Institute of Education and Reading Recovery Europe in 2016.

Ozzy the reading dog

Ozzy the Reading Dog at Brighton Expert Tutors
Ozzy is a Cockerpoo and has been a Reading Dog in a school and at Brighton Expert Tutors for 4 years. He listens attentively and always knows when someone may need some reassurance or encouragement. He sometimes blogs about his experiences. He keeps a check on all our students and is loved by all of them.
